Skimming - Scanning - Reading for detail

What is skimming?
_ Skimming is one of the tools you can use to read more in less time. Skimming refers to looking only for the general or main ideas. With skimming, you overall understanding is reduced because you don't read everything.
_ Running your eyes over the text to get the general meaning. NOT STOPPING at word you don't understand, because this will only slow you down.
_ Looking closely at the topic sentence - the most important sentence of the paragraph.
What is scanning?
_ Scanning is another useful tool for speeding up your reading. Unlike skimming, when scanning, you look only specific fact or piece of information without reading everything.
_ Look the question and search for keyword or idea associate with the question.
_ Your eyes then move quickly over the page, flitting around the text, back and forth, up and down.
_ Less reading and more searching.

_ Reading for detail to confirm the answer.
_ When we read for detail, we read every word in the text and think carefully about the overall meaning of each sentence.

_ Look for the title of the passage and any illustration
_ Skim the question type
_ Skim the reading passage
_ Go back to the first set of the question
_ Use the specific skill for each kind of question
_ Look for the key word in the passage
_ Read for detail to confirm the answer
